Does the Payable On Death (POD) I assign need to be present when named?

No, not at all.

The person named as Payable on Death (POD) for your account does not need be present when named, nor sign anything initially. There are no signature requirements of the POD on your account either – just the account owner.

In fact, the POD beneficiary does not need to know that they’ve been assigned to an account. There will be no correspondence with the POD from the credit union until notification of the account owner’s death.
